Reversing the Curse – The Troubling Word Returns to its Sender
The Psalmist prayed that negative words spoken over him would trouble the sender. That is, what was meant to be hurtful to us, was returned to its origin and troubled the one who sent it.
Let the heads of those who surround me be covered with the trouble their lips have caused – Ps. 140:9
We’ve all had words spoken over us that were not good. People swore at us, mostly out of anger, frustration or in jest. Then there are those that speak against a person, who having done no wrong, is to be the recepiant of a word that is meant to harm, hurt, and curse.
Trouble to the troubler
David prays here in the Psalms that the one that sent the words spoken would return and trouble the sender. Here’s the principle of retversing the curse. Because of our position in Christ, there is a barrier around us and the spiritual component that reverses back to the sender the very words that were sent to trouble us. Thus, words, of curses, condemnation, rejection, betrayal, abuse, and worse yet, destruction can literally be returned back to the one spoken and inflict on that person the intent for the believer.
Christians Reversing the Curse
So, in light of Jesus’ teaching on love, and blessing our enemies, how does this verse apply to Christians today? Here’s the principle. There are definately word curses that are spoken over people’s lives. Depending on the source and strength of the demonic connection, demon spirits are many times carriers of curses to inflict upon the person the words spoken. But, for the beliver walking under their authority in Christ, we can trust that those demonic entities cannot have there influence, but rather, because of devine protection, are sent back to the sender. Yes, we bless our enemies, but at the same time life and death is in the power of their own tongue as well. And, as they seek to inflict curses on a believer, that word is returned back and they in reality hurt themselves. It is a self-inflicted curse.
Today Lord, I thank you that no weapon, or word spoken over me will prosper and have it intended result on my life. Thank you for the protection and shielding of your hand over me and my family for your good to come to us.
Got a Friend? Everyone Needs a Friend in time of need
Have you ever needed help? Have you ever had someone else step in to assist you when things were rough?
Jonathan went to David at Horesh and helped him find strength in God. “Don’t be afraid,” he said. - 1 Sam 23:16-17
King David was on the run. Saul was after him and pursuing Him to kill him. And in the midst of this time, Jonathan kept tabs on his friend and when the opportunity came Jonathan came to David and encourage him. “Don’t be afraid” is what he said. Then they made a covenant between themselves.
You need a friend
We all need someone at various times in our lives to assist us, encourage us, give us a word of direction, or just the knowledge that we’re not alone but standing together. Do you have this type of friend?
Are you a friend to someone else?
Are you on the receiving end or giving end. We all need a friend to help us in time of need. But what about us helping someone else in time of need? You can you help today, this week? Who are you standing with and who is standing with you?
We all need each other. Especially in times of need. David had a Jonathan that said “Don’t be afraid . . .” Is there someone saying this in your life?
What Will God Do For Me?
David brought his mother and father to the king of Moab for safety and protection . . . until he knew and heard from God what was next.
Would you let my father and mother come and stay with you until I learn what God will do for me? – 1 Sam. 22:3
I learn what God will do for me -
David was in a critical situation. He needed to hear from God. He needed to know what God was going to do for him. He was running for his life from Saul. He had a prophetic word and anointing already on his life. But he was talking about survival at this point. What was God going to do for him?
Then in two verses, Gad the prophet showed up and gave David a prophetic word for direction. There it was. This was the begining of what God was going to do for him. It wasn’t the total picture, but it was a starting point. The prophetic word was the starting point!
Do you need to hear from God?
God has a word for you. To give you further direction and pointing you to His purpose. Notice David first took care of his family and then waited. And then the prophet showed up. Here’s the principle. Take care of what you know to do and then the prophetic will show up. And you will have further information as to the direction you are to take. Until then be patient.
Lord this day I thank you that you are leading and guiding into all truth and as I take care of what I know to do, I thank you that You’ll speak and direct and guide me, my life, and family and ministry into your purpose. Amen
Pray and Trust – God Answers Prayer
The Lord delights in answering our prayers, for it is an extension of our relationship with Him and our trust in Him.
He answered their prayers, because they trusted in him – 1 Chron. 5:20
In our story in 1 Chronicles chapter 5 there were tribes of Israel that went to battle, cried out to God for the victory, and God answered their prayer. The only condition stated that was the basis for their answer to prayer was they trusted in Him.
They trust in Him
Sounds so simple doesn’t it? Yes, and it should be. Why complicate the simplicity of our relationship with the Lord when the God of heaven has desired to related with and love us? Other then simple trust, how could any of us measure up to a standard that is beyond reach of most people. It was very simple . . . . they trusted Him.
God answers prayers
How ofter does God answer your or mine prayers? When was the last time you definately knew that an answer to prayer was a direct result of God intervening in your/my life? When was the last time prayer changed the course of events for our lives and things would have been differenet had the prayer not been answered. In our example today in 1 Chron. 5, Israel’s tribes would have lost a battle had they had a answer to prayer. How about us. What battles would we have won, if we had only trusted . . .
Lord this day I pray and trust. And I look for the answers to that which I prayed. This is very simple friends. We could over complicate this with much writing, reasoning, quoting many scriptures and build a rather long discussion of all the variables involved in prayer. . . . but for today. . . I’m going to pray and trust. And watch was Jesus will do for me – today.
